EDU54

Terms of Use and Service

The rules for using this website and the online demos, and the standard terms for schools that buy an EDU54 box.

Last updated 21 October 2026

You buy it once

You pay for the box and its setup. There is no monthly subscription and no per-student fee.

Your data stays yours

Your institution's data lives on your box. We do not own it, sell it or train AI on it.

A tool, not a teacher

The AI tutor helps students learn. It can be wrong, and teachers stay in charge.

Your order comes first

Anything agreed in your signed order overrides these standard terms.

About these terms

These terms are between you and EDU54 ("we", "us"). Part A covers everyone who uses this website or the online demos. Part B covers schools, colleges, universities and other institutions that buy an EDU54 box ("you", "your institution").

If your institution signs an order, quote or agreement with us, that document takes priority wherever it differs from these terms. Questions: [email protected].

Part A: Using this website and the demos

  • You may browse this site and try the demos to learn about EDU54.
  • The demos use a made-up school with sample data. Each visitor gets a private copy that is deleted within 24 hours. Do not enter real personal information.
  • Do not try to break, overload, scrape at scale or get around the security or limits of the site or demos, and do not use them to create harmful or unlawful content.
  • We may change, pause or remove the demos at any time, and they may be unavailable without notice.
  • Screens, text and features on this site describe the product as it is today. We work to keep them accurate, but they are not a contract; your order is.

Part B: Quotes and orders

  • Each box is quoted per order, based on the edition (K-12 or University) and the size of your school or campus. A quote states the price, what is included, and how long the quote is valid.
  • An order is accepted when we confirm it in writing. Prices, payment terms, delivery and installation dates, warranty and support are set out in the order.
  • You pay for the box and its setup. There is no monthly subscription and no per-student fee for using the box. Any optional extra services, such as additional training or on-site visits, are quoted separately and only charged if you agree.

What you get

  • The box (the hardware) becomes your institution's property once paid for in full, unless your order says otherwise.
  • The software, EDU54 built on Umanah Institute LabOS, is licensed to your institution to use on that box for as long as you own it, for teaching, learning and running your institution.
  • Open-source software and open educational content on the box keep their own licences (for example CC BY, CC BY-SA and public domain content). Their attributions are listed on the box, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences.
  • Setup: before it ships we configure the box with your institution's name, first admin account, classes and content, as agreed in the order.

You may not resell the software separately from the box, remove our notices, or use our name and logo without permission.

Your responsibilities

  • Accounts and access: create accounts only for your students and staff, keep admin passwords safe, and remove people who leave.
  • Consent and notices: tell students, parents and staff how the box is used, and get any parent or guardian consent the law in your country requires. See Data protection.
  • Safety contacts: name at least one designated safety contact who will act on safety alerts from the box.
  • Acceptable use: do not use the box to harass anyone, break the law, or upload content you do not have the right to share. Teachers are responsible for the materials they upload.
  • Care of the box: keep it in a secure, ventilated place with stable power. We recommend a small backup power supply (UPS). Use the admin area to back up your data regularly.

The AI tutor

The AI tutor runs on your box. It is built to help students learn: in homework it gives hints rather than answers, and in assessments it stays out. Every message is screened before and after the tutor answers, and messages suggesting a student may be in danger go to your designated safety contacts.

Even so, AI can be wrong, incomplete or misunderstood, and safety screening cannot catch everything. The tutor is a learning aid, not a replacement for teachers, counsellors or professional advice. Teachers remain responsible for teaching, marking and supervising, and your institution remains responsible for safeguarding.

Your data

Your institution owns the data on its box and is the data controller for it. We do not claim any rights over it, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train AI models. We only access a box with your permission for support, as described in our Privacy Policy. On request, we will sign a data processing agreement that covers that support access.

Updates, warranty and support

  • The box keeps working offline. We install new software and content for you; an automatic update process is on our roadmap.
  • Hardware warranty, repair and support response times are set out in your order. Your school's data can be backed up and exported from the admin area.
  • Except as stated in your order, the website and demos are provided "as is", and we do not promise that any part of the service will be free of errors or available without interruption.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Your statutory rights as a buyer are not affected.

Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data you could have avoided by keeping backups; and our total liability under an order is limited to the amount paid for that order.

Our name and content

"EDU54", our logo, this website's design and text, and the software we wrote belong to us or our licensors. You may link to this site and quote it fairly with credit.

Ending, changes and the law that applies

  • We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. Changes do not affect orders already accepted unless you agree.
  • If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • The law that governs an order, and where disputes are heard, are stated in the order. We will always try to resolve a problem by talking first: write to [email protected].
